What type of bike should I rent?

The best bike for you is one that fits with your riding style and experience. Many novice riders prefer a comfort bike with thicker tires and a lower center of gravity. Hybrid bikes are nimbler, faster and lighter than comfort bikes and a great choice for the majority of cyclists. We recommend the Road Bike package only to experienced road bike riders.

All of the bikes used for this event will be 2009 or 2010 models. All bikes will be tuned-up and ready to go.

What if I don’t know what size bike I ride?

When you make your reservation we’ll ask for your gender and height. We will select an appropriate sized bicycle for you.

May I request a specific bike size or color?

You may request a specific size ONLY if you are renting a ROAD bike. If you don’t know what size road bike you want we will select an appropriate sized bicycle for you based on your gender and height.

We are not able to accommodate color requests.

May I rent a tandem for this event?

Tandem bikes packages are not available for this event.

Do you have bikes and other equipment for kids?

We have a limited number of kids bikes appropriate for kids who are approximately 4’6” or taller. If you are looking for other children’s equipment, please contact us .

May I bring my own pedals?

All of our bikes come with platform (flat) pedals. When you make your reservation you may indicate that you will bring your own pedals. We will have tools to help you change them.

Will the bikes have water bottle cages?

Each will bike will come equipped with a water bottle cage.

Will water be available?

As neither of our pickup locations will have running water, make sure to fill up you’re your water bottles before the event. Bottled water will be available for purchase our Battery Park shop.

When and where do I pick up my bike? Can I pick up my bike early?

Bikes may be picked up in one of two locations. On Friday and Saturday, bikes will be available at our Battery Park – Pier A Bike and Roll NYC shop between 9 AM and 8 PM (an extra charge will be applied for bikes picked up before 4pm on Saturday). On Sunday, bikes will be available on the Esplanade near the ride start between 6:30 AM and 8 AM.

When you make your reservation you must indicate where and when you’ll want to pick up your bike.

What do I do with my bike at the end of the ride?

All rentals must be returned at the end of the ride. As you approach the Staten Island Ferry Terminal you will see Bike and Roll signs indicating where to return your equipment. As an added benefit to all Bike and Roll rental packages, this allows you to bypass much of the “bike line” to board the Staten Island Ferry.

What if I need support along the route?

The TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour is a fully supported event. You will find maintenance stops and assistance along the route. See the event web site for more details.

Do you provide helmets?

Helmets are required on the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour. We strongly encourage you to bring your own helmet. Helmets are included for free in your bike rental package should you need one. When you make your reservation you may indicate if you will need a helmet.

Do the bikes come with a spare tube?

Due to the volume of bikes for this event we are unable to provide spare tubes or flat kits. Tubes and other accessories will be available to purchase at our Battery Park shop. You will also find various means of support along the route and you may purchase tubes and flat kits. If you’d like to purchase tubes before you arrive comfort bikes take 26 x 1.95 tubes; Hybrids take 700 x 35c tubes and road bikes take 700 x 25c tubes.

Do I have to pay to reserve a bike?

Due to the volume of bikes for this event the reservations for our bike rental packages are pre-paid. If you need to cancel, you may do so by April 10th and will receive a 50% refund. After that time we are unable to offer any refunds.

Do I need to reserve now?

We recommend that you reserve your equipment as soon as you know whether you’ll be riding in the TD Bank Five Boro Bike tour. We will guarantee a bike for you with a reservation.

What if I want to reserve more than one type of bike?

Please make a reservation for each type of bicycle you’d like to reserve.

Why do you need my e-mail address and phone number(s)?

We will send you a receipt and updates should the need arise. In the event of an issue with your payment, we will contact you by phone. We will not sell or provide your name, e-mail address or phone number to any third parties.
